The pain of cluster headache by agnes-cecile The pain of cluster headache by agnes-cecile

I made this painting for a project about Cluster Headache (for info….
I was contacted by Al.ce Cluster Europe… to create this piece of art for it to be exposed in their art gallery dedicated to such disease.
The coordinator of the forementioned association, Claudio Geraci, requested some paintings for him about the topic, where as the first painting was the burden, this is the pain.

As much as I love the message and the idea you are attempting to portray, I feel like the face is a little bit lost in the surrounding chaos; which I should note, represents the pain and anguish of cluster headaches brilliantly, through your use of aggressive brush strokes.

Firstly, I'd suggest trying a 50/50 mixture of brown and blue rather than pure black - this could give the piece a bit more of a bite and more depth. And you could maybe use a higher ratio of red to create a deep, dark, purple-ish tone.

Secondly; possibly starting on a washy ground, perhaps a mid tone of red like you have in the top right to suggest layers in both the piece and the degrees of pain for suffers of such mysterious disease.

Good job nonetheless! :D I'm an admirer of your work

I love your work, I could watch it all day - that s a fact. Now days you ave to search for an critiquable work like for 20 minutes, but when it comes to your art every piece is worth taking some time. So, yes this is wonderful, realy well done. The face itself reminds me of a picture of Bob Marley, kinda brilliant job done there. The hair nd all other details are fiting the project s concept. Just the technique itself deserves a high rating, but the end product tops everything. Realy, i wouldn t be suprised if ya read somethere that other artists have found inspiration coz of your artwork.

One of the critiques says " I feel like the face is a little bit lost in the surrounding chaos", but isn't that the point? Your own personality, sense of self can be lost amid such overwhelming pain.
I think it's great.

As a CH sufferer, you've nailed it. I doubt one can give a description of feelings inside here without giving a brief research what cluster headaches are.

I'd really like to hang a big print of this in my home so I that maybe I wouldn't feel so alone with this everyday. This painting is really the best form of empathy I've encountered. Chronic headaches can be very isolating. I could go on about technique and colour, etc, but it's really so much larger than that. This imagery communicates directly to me. Thank you ... you've captured so many aspects of my 'brainfire' in this work.

Take care and be strong.

You've painted it like you've experienced it, and if you haven't i think it's pretty amazing.
I do know what they are like, and i think you've captured it extremely well.
I hope your art will create more understanding.
Thank you for making such an amazing art piece (eventhough it's about a horrible thing)

Beautiful ! It expresses pretty well how you feel when you're in the middle of it. I have cluster headaches once or more per day. Pretty much every day of the year... since more than 2 years now. Thanks for making it possible to express !
Will it be available as a print someday? I reaaally want to buy one !

I have to say this may be my favorite painting you have done so far. exceptionally gorgeous.

I get cluster headaches and this painting does express quite well how I feel internally in the middle of one.

Very well done - most people don't even believe how painful they are let alone are able to capture it in any medium.

When I'm not well, it expresses my anger and my pain better than me... I am so impressed... Thank you for this emotion !
HarmoniousTruth Featured By Owner Jan 8, 2013
I've seen some crappy abstract art. I've seen artist just randomly spit colors on a page with no vision or passion. This piece goes beyond the restrictions of everyday life and stirs the emotions of the viewer. So..... awesome painting :blushes:

Watching this being painted on youtube brought tears to my eyes. It captured the suffering more eloquently than reading any book. This is awful and amazing and educational all at once.

Do you see a print of this? I get cluster headaches/migraines and I have never seen a more perfect description of the pain I feel when I get one. I keep coming back the this. I first saw this and I literally said to myself, "That is it. That is EXACTLY what it feels like." I could never fully justify it with words. I would really like to keep a copy of this with me so when people ask me what it is like I can show them this. I could just download it to and print it out to keep it with me, but if you sell it as a print I would love for you to profit from it.
