Description

I started this new series called "circles" making some anatomy exercises, drawing them directly with a ink-gel pen, without pencil drawing.

The watercolour adds depth and life to the painting. But the purple splash under one brother's armpit is right along the flow of his arm, and with a quick glance, it looks like the splash could be the hand of the other brother. The purple on the front-facing brother's cheek is a nice touch, suggesting a heightened emotional state. But the brother to the right who is not as colourful as the brother in the main splash seems almost separated from this all. Maybe because he's facing the other way and his emotions are hidden?

The hand sticking above the brothers' heads and protruding out of the circle is distracting. However, the circle itself is nicely incomplete and almost bubble-like in its containment of the brothers and the watercolour fingers.

In the end... the watercolour draws attention to the middle and the circle around them captures the idea of the overall flow and not on the somewhat awkward position the brothers happen to be hugging in. This is a wonderful painting that has enough colour and flow to sweep over the awkwardness that pens and random hugs usually leave.
